15 Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tips From Someone Who Goes Every Year

Updated: 3 days ago

My Best Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tips

If you're planning to attend Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, these tips will help you make the most of your evening.

There's just something magical about seeing Magic Kingdom dressed up for Halloween. From glowing pumpkins lining Main Street, U.S.A. to the Headless Horseman riding down the parade route, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has become one of my favorite special events at Walt Disney World.

Over the years, I've learned a few tricks that can help you spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying everything the party has to offer. Whether you're attending for the first time or returning for another spooky season, these tips will help you make the most of your night.

Whether your goal is meeting rare characters, collecting candy, watching the parade, or simply soaking in the Halloween atmosphere, these tips will help you make the most of your party night.

Cinderella's Castle Boo To You Parade

1. Arrive Early

Although the party officially begins later in the evening, party guests are typically allowed into Magic Kingdom before the event starts.

Take advantage of that extra time! Grab a snack, take a few photos, browse the shops, or enjoy a couple of attractions before the exclusive party entertainment begins.

2. Don't Try to Do Everything

One of the biggest mistakes I see guests make is trying to experience every single offering.

Instead, decide what's most important to your family.

Do you want:

  • Rare characters?

  • Trick-or-treating?

  • Party-exclusive snacks?

  • The parade?

  • Fireworks?

  • Attraction overlays?

Having a plan makes the evening much more enjoyable.

3. Wear Comfortable Shoes

You'll be walking several miles during the party.

Even if you're wearing an amazing costume, make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to last all evening.

Your feet will thank you!

4. Check the Weather Before You Leave

Florida weather changes quickly.

A lightweight poncho can save the night if an afternoon or evening shower rolls through.

It's one of those items you'll be happy you packed.

5. Take It Easy During the Day

Remember—this is a late-night event.

One of my favorite ways to spend party day is visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park in the morning before heading back to the resort for a relaxing afternoon break.

Or simply sleep in, explore Disney Springs, enjoy the pool, and recharge before heading to Magic Kingdom.

A little downtime can make a huge difference by the end of the night.

6. Grab Your Wristband as Soon as You Enter

You'll receive a special wristband when entering the park for the party.

This identifies you as a party guest and gives you access to all of the exclusive entertainment, trick-or-treat locations, and offerings throughout the evening.

7. Don't Miss the Entertainment

The entertainment is one of the biggest reasons I attend the party.

Some of my favorites include:

  • Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade

  • Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks

  • Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

  • Dance parties and live entertainment throughout the park

If these experiences are important to you, build your evening around them.

8. Ask the PhotoPass Photographer a Question

This is one of my favorite little secrets.

Whenever you stop for a PhotoPass picture, ask:

"Do you have any Magic Shots today?"

You never know what extra Disney magic might appear in your photos!

9. Wear a Costume (If You Want To!)

One of my favorite things about the party is seeing everyone's creativity.

Whether you go all out with a family costume or simply DisneyBound as your favorite character, dressing up makes the evening even more fun.

Just be sure to review Disney's current costume guidelines before your visit.

10. Don't Skip the Trick-or-Treat Trails

Even adults can trick-or-treat!

The candy stations move surprisingly quickly, and it's a fun part of the experience for guests of all ages.

11. Save Regular Attractions for Another Day

One strategy I personally use is focusing my party time on experiences that are exclusive to the event. Since I usually spend several days at Walt Disney World, I save many of the regular attractions for my Magic Kingdom day and devote my party ticket to everything that makes Halloween Party so special.

12. Try a Party-Exclusive Treat

One of the best parts of every Halloween Party is the special food.

Keep an eye out for limited-time desserts, snacks, and beverages that are only available during the event.

Some become guest favorites every year!

13. Stay for the Atmosphere

Don't spend the entire evening running from one attraction to the next.

Slow down.

Listen to the music.

Look at the decorations.

Watch guests in costume.

Sometimes the best memories come from simply soaking in the Halloween atmosphere.

14. Have a Flexible Plan

The party is full of surprises.

Entertainment times can change.

Weather happens.

Lines fluctuate.

Having a plan is important—but don't be afraid to adjust as the evening unfolds.

Sometimes the unexpected moments become your favorite memories.

15. Remember Why You're There

At the end of the day, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party isn't about checking every box.

It's about making memories.

Whether you're collecting candy, laughing during the parade, meeting your favorite characters, or watching fireworks over Cinderella Castle, those are the moments you'll remember long after your vacation is over.
